JE3 Statement from Charlie Edinburgh

By Media

A message from JE3 Foundation CEO, Charlie Edinburgh

As a family, nothing brought us back to the moment we lost Dad faster than the frightening scenes that took place during Saturday’s Denmark v Finland Euro 2020 match.

In the days since, the spotlight has grown on JE3’s efforts to scale CPR training, raise awareness of cardiac arrest, and increase access to defibrillators through legislative change here in the UK. While we are immensely grateful for the increased engagement and support, I must first and foremost express, on behalf of everyone at JE3 Foundation, how sincerely relieved we are that Christian Eriksen is in a stable condition and is, based on reports, improving day-by-day. To Christian’s family, please know that you have a support system in us.

Much like those of you consuming the match from around the globe, and those in Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Saturday, I was hit by a wave of emotions: utter disbelief, empathy for Christian’s family, and sheer dread for an outcome of cardiac arrest that my family is all too familiar with. Noticeably absent in this whirlwind of emotions? Confusion. I was more confident than not that we were witnessing a cardiac arrest.

Just four days prior, we marked the two-year anniversary of Dad’s passing. In those two years, I have learned more about cardiac arrest than in all my years prior, and the measures that each of us can take to save lives in those perilous moments. There is no better case study than the collective action of the Danish squad, match referee, and medics which proved decisive in Christian’s survival.

I join each of you who continues to send well wishes for Christian and monitor his progress. While the issue of cardiac arrest is at the forefront of public consciousness, I hope that you will join me and the JE3 Foundation in taking action to save lives.

JE3 Foundation Mark 2 Year Anniversary of Justin Passing

By Media

Together with friends, family, and the global football community, the JE3 Foundation is remembering Justin Edinburgh: a one-of-a-kind footballer, manager, and family-man.

The Foundation, which was founded just weeks after the shocking events of 8th June 2019,  has today donated three more life-saving defibrillators in a bid to change outcomes in the face of cardiac arrest, whilst also launching a new website where supporters can learn more about Justin’s story and play a meaningful part in his legacy.

Above all, today is about lovingly remembering the man behind the achievements. Justin Edinburgh had a tremendous impact on people from all walks of life, as he did on the game of football. Charlie Edinburgh, Foundation CEO and Justin’s son, explains:

“The shock never fully retreats. But, in the deepest moments of grief, it’s the stories of individuals, whose lives were touched by him, that inspire us into action so that we can continue his legacy.

Dad lived in the moment and looked to the future with unwavering optimism. This informed our decision to launch our new website and donate defibrillators today — we wanted to commemorate this specific day, remember the man, whilst also bringing supporters into this next phase of the Foundation’s work.

Leyton Orient Announce Justin Edinburgh Stand

By Media

In a lasting tribute to Justin Edinburgh, Leyton Orient Football Club has announced that the West Stand at the Breyer Group Stadium will be officially renamed the Justin Edinburgh Stand.

The renaming of the stand, in memory of the Club’s title-winning coach, will be marked by Justin’s wife Kerri, and children Charlie and Cydnie in the build-up to kick-off tomorrow against Newport County, who Justin also managed to promotion in 2013.

Kerri Edinburgh commented, “It is with enormous pride and excitement that on Saturday we will be attending Leyton Orient v Newport County for the official unveiling of The Justin Edinburgh Stand.

“Over the past months we can’t thank Leyton Orient enough for their continued support to us all. We’ll be forever grateful for that and know why Justin loved this club and the people involved with it so much.

“One of Justin’s and our family’s most memorable moments of his managerial career was the promotion back to the Football League which was secured on the pitch in front of this stand which will now proudly be named after Justin.

“We’d like to thank Nigel, Kent, the Board of Directors and all the staff at Leyton Orient for making this possible and for always making us feel welcome and part of the Orient family; our family and friends for their continued support; and finally, football fans all over the UK, especially those Leyton Orient supporters and Newport County supporters with whom Justin had an incredible mutual bond and supported him and his teams so passionately.”

The JE3 Foundation look forward to working closely with Leyton Orient and the Club’s supporters to raise funds and awareness for CPR training, the donation of defibrillators, and campaigning for Justin’s Law.

Justin Edinburgh Inducted into Newport County Hall of Fame

By Media

Former Manager and Club legend Justin Edinburgh has today been posthumously inducted into the Newport County AFC Hall of Fame.

Revered by Newport supporters, Justin managed the Exiles from 2011-15, and famously clinched a return to the Football league in 2013 with a play-off victory over Wrexham at Wembley.

Marked by a minute of applause pre-match and a dedicated half-time ceremony, the induction was a welcome tribute for Justin’s family who were present. Speaking of their appreciation, a family spokesperson commented:

“The club was very close to Justin’s heart as it is ours and some of the best moments from his illustrious career were spent with County – the stand-out one being the promotion against Wrexham at Wembley in the Conference play-off final.

“We cannot thank everyone enough for the support shown to us as a family in the most tragic of times. We urge everyone to get behind the JE3 Foundation so that we can make a difference to people’s lives and continue Justin’s legacy for many years to come. A special thank you to all of the Board of Directors, staff, players and fans at Newport for their support and their warm welcome as always.”
